Why Pastoral Care Ministry?

In a large church like Faith Methodist Church with 1,700 members, it is impossible to just depend on a few ordained pastors and Lay Ministry Staff to reach out and touch every member’s life. It is quite a task just to remember the names of every member in Faith, let alone to know of their every need.

PCM groups are modelled after the house churches of the early church when the concept of church buildings was non-existent. “They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:46-47). The lifestyle of the first Christians meeting in house groups was so powerful that daily conversions took place.

PCM groups provide believers with the setting to live out the Great Commandment and Great Commission of Christ. In the midst of other believers, there are many opportunities to put into practice Christ’s injunction to love God with all our hearts, souls, minds and might and love our neighbour as ourselves. As a group, there is greater motivation to go and make disciples and to teach them to obey everything He has commanded us.
